I bought this camera because my friend had it and I reallly liked the pictures she had taken. It has performed extremely well in all situations: Shuttle launch video, riding video, bands, flowers, birds, rain, etc. I'm convinced of its construction quality because it flew out of my hand on a recent trike ride and ended up in the middle of the road. I lost the battery door and the battery but not the SD which was loaded with pictures. I bought a new battery, charged it up, downloaded my pictures, took the camera through all its settings and added a little duck tape for the battery door. It works like new but looks like junk. I will likely spring for another Coolpix in the future because I really like the size and quality of the photes. Thanks NIKON.

This is an excellent camera, what it needs is people who know photography to appreciate it ! I took these two pictures on low light with the flash on minimum, and also lower the ev to its lowest and these are the results, so don't knock anything down is you don't have the knowledge.

I have just had this camera for a few days, and it takes very good pictures and video. Everything functions as stated in the manual. It is very easy to use.

I'm a retired tractor trailer driver and I bought this camera as a take along in the truck instead of my "big one". I hate to say it, but this little camera rivals the photo quality of the other one. Well made and great quality in a small carry along package. Now that I'm retired I either carry it in my purse or pocket when I talk the dog, just in case a good photo op comes along. So glad I bought this camera.

I want to say upfront I'm not a camera expert and am not speaking to camera experts. I'm a person who wanted a camera for the basic, no nonsense features. I'm just speaking to the people out there who take casual pictures now and then. Typically I've had trouble in the past with cameras because sometimes my hands move and the pictures are out of focus or blurry. This has not been a problem for me at all and it's easy to take "not fuzzy" pictures. The flash works well and there isn't much of a delay between when you push the button and when it takes the picture. I used to hate the cameras where you had to hold the button down and almost count to three. It's very easy to navigate the menus and this is pretty durable. I've dropped it several times and haven't had any problems. Figuring out how to zoom, focus, and flash were all very easy, and they all seem to work well. I use my camera for casual pictures with friends or to put things on Ebay. I'm never really taking action shots, so I have no comments in regard to those types of things one way or the other. If you are one of those people who are incredibly picky and high maintenence when it comes to your devices just ignore this review. I'm not saying this is a bad choice, but I am saying I don't know if it will satisfy you or not. If you want a durable little camera that does the basics fairly simply and nicely, then this is would be a good choice. It also has a lot of extra bells and whistles. Also I've had mine over a year now and it is still in great shape. I got yellow, which is metallic yellow, and in person it's more like a chartruse or citron. I think it's cool because there aren't other camera colors like it, but if ecto-cooler green isn't your thing, I'd suggest a different color.

The new Nikon is amazing. It has all features a camera needs. I went to Niagara Falls with the camera and the footage it took was fabulous. Best Camera created by Nikon so far.

This camera was great right out of the box. I previously owned a Nikon CoolPix. After 10 years of happily using it, it became possessed and started turning itself on and off, repeatedly. I really wanted another CoolPix, since I thought that my old one was so good and had served me for so long. I shopped around and found the S3100. I jumped when I saw the price and features. It's so easy that you could use it without doing any reading to discover everything else special that it can do. I don't understand the few negative reviewers' comments. This camera can't take a bad picture. I used it for photos for a business proposal, and everyone was so impressed with the pictures even when printed with a color laser printer on plain bond paper. It's fun and easy to take great pictures. It's such a good buy for a fantastic price. It's one of the best buys I've made all year.

Difícil escrever pouco desta compacta tão fascinante!!! Foram meses escolhendo no mercado qual seria a melhor, e não me arrependi... MELHOR CUSTO/BENEFÍCIO que já tive...
Em um primeiro momento, adaptei ela a mim da melhor forma (ex.: ISO eu uso baixo, no máximo 400, e megapixel em 3)... Mas convenhamos tanto no modo automático quanto no seletor de cenas, ela faz quase milagres, muito inteligente encontra o melhor foco...
Meu recurso favorito é a cena "animal", nunca foi tão fácil tirar fotos dos meus "amigos peludos" (cães), além de disparo automático com a detecção da face do animal, ainda permiti tirar contínuo pra não perder nenhum momento como "dar a patinha!"... rsrsrs
Consigo tirar fotos a distância sem perder a nitidez com um zoom de 5x...
Apesar de eu preferir fotos na luz do dia e sem flash, minha "amiguinha" S3100, fez eu mudar de opinião, com vários recursos noturnos e ainda um flash com um dos melhores alcances do mercado...
Proteja suas fotos favoritas e ainda salve elas na memória interna de 45 mb...
Enfim, dia ou noite,chuva ou sol, amanhecer ou entardecer, em qualquer momento minha Nikon registra bem!!!

What a great little camera for the price. I arrived in Maui with a broken Kodak digital and popped into Costco.
Look, this won't do what a full featured DSLR will do. But it fits in a shirt pocket. It's fast. High resolution. Intuitive controls and features. I've always owned and loved Nikon, and this little beauty does nothing to put me off the brand. I have a hard time with coming up with anything negative when I consider the price.

I have been using film cameras for years. I have a Nikon N90 and a Nilon N70 which I use for travel with a 35mm lense. Film, like fuji film professional, is by far superior to digital, whatever anyone says. My Nikon film cameras will produce at least 28megapixels, while this unit would have 14megapixels. Nikon cameras have always been in a league apart, I give them 5 stars. This coolpix is very lightweight, and I can use it as a pocket camera. I will use it to take picture shots I might not take with film. I will reserve film for the best shots, and take both cameras on my next trip. I recommend Nikon by far. They are great cameras...

Wow, I have 12 cameras and I like this one the best! It helps me to show memories, the pictures are very clear. I got this camera because I want to be a photographer.
This is a great first step to being a photographer, it also helps for scrapbooks some of my past scrapbooks you could not see the photos that amazing like this camera!

Camera bought to take pictures of our products for a facebook page. Simple to use and the autofocus is great. Within minutes we had great pics on our page. User friendly and rechargeable battery make it a great buy.

Bought this cam last December 31, 2011, just in time for the New Year. Been deciding what to buy between Canon and Nikon but ended up Nikon when i found out that Nikon have great pic resolution. Well, good choice, I had this camera for almost 3 weeks now and I love it. Even my friends wanted to have this camera.
