~I purchased the Nikon D90 as my first digital SLR. I have always had "the eye" when it comes to photography but lacked the technical talent. I am still trying to master shooting in manual and I am still learning every time I take my camera out of the bag. I love it and I would highly recommend it!~

I've owned this camera for four years. It's a great, solid camera. Simple to use and if you read up on its features, it will take even better images. It's quick and the in camera editing is fantastic. I love how easy it is to edit and get wonderful results. The lens it comes with is pretty good as well. It zooms well and is a fantastic starter lens. My favorite part of this camera is its ability to take AMAZING long exposure shots. Of course you have to get use to taking such shots but even when first experimenting, you WILL get some good pictures. This camera is perfect for a first DSLR. It's almost foolproof. If you truly want it to be foolproof, set it on auto and it'll do everything for you.
The flash is very good. It isn't overwhelming in the least. The body is light and like other people have stated, fits great in your hands. It may look a bit bulky but it's really not. There's no awkwardness in holding the camera whatsoever.
There are some very minor annoyances with auto focusing and color saturation but that very well might be with the lens. I'm still using the default lens it came with. As stated before it's a good lens but not top of the line.
The fisheye tool in the camera though nice to have, isn't as good as a real fisheye lens. The higher effect you try to get, the worse it looks.
The D lighting is GREAT! I couldn't imagine taking pictures without it.
It does get grainy when trying to go above 1600 ISO. If you frequently shoot at night without much lighting around you, bring extra lighting or get a more advanced camera.
The video is decent. Since it's the very first DSLR to have had it, you have to manually focus. When you do so, it captures nice video.

Picked this up as my first foray into the realm of Digital SLRs. Impressive dynamic range and a good solid feel despite the plastic body (which keeps it light, and easy to travel with). Focus is lightning quick and allows you to shoot just about anything you'd like provided you have the glass for it. The control layout is logical (except for the placement of the ISO button, the use of which is somewhat limited anyway) and allows you to shift all the necessary variables quickly and confidently.
Now, on to ISO. The D90 struggles in low-light photography if one relies upon ISO performance. Higher than 1600 you begin to see grain and beyond that it's a snowstorm. Flashes are required for low-light shooting of any kind. If you want brilliant ISO, buy a D700.
Provided you have plenty of light, this is one of the best cameras on the market for what you're paying. I strongly recommend the D90 to any photographer in any phase of their career.

I bought this camera as my first DSLR in 2009 and we are still "clicking" together. I haven't had a single problem with it since purchasing it. In fact, as I've increased my photography knowledge, I am still learning all that the D90 can do. I will probably upgrade in a year or two as my needs change/advance but for now, this camera is perfect for me. I also appreciate that it is light and the perfect size for my hands and fits so many different lenses. This is my 3rd Nikon but never considered myself a Nikon loyalist until I used this camera. Even though I am thinking about upgrading at some point, I will definitely keep the D90. I love it!

I've owned my D90 for three years and it is the best Digital camera I've ever owned (I am a life long Nikon user going back to the 1970's). It takes fantastic pictures and is solidly built. And it is the right size for me.

The Nikon D90 is the best DSLR for amateur usage or "second body" pro. Compatible with most of the Nikkor lenses, small and lightweight, is the logic choice for your travels. Construction quality is fine, price is OK, pictures taken with this camera are amazing. I own my D90 for at least three years, heavy usage and the camera still works perfectly.

Ok, so the specs are not 2012 but if you are looking for a mid-priced DSLR that will enable you to take creative quality photo's then look no further. Build quality is excellent, size and weight just right and the 18-135 surprisingly good. I'm a happy guy.

Uma excelente câmera, você consegue tirar fotos incríveis! Os menus dela são muito fáceis e facilitam na hora de fazer os ajustes! Eu tenho a D3100 que eu amo, mas estou extremamente apaixonada por minha D90! Vale a pena ter uma!

I am in love with nikon since about 1980. I finally get my first nikon DSLR which is the D90. It is a very great product. Though the lens are average, I upgraded it to the Nikkor 70-300mm. overall, really great product! Would recommend this!

I've owned my D90 for almost a year and it has never let me down. There was a short 'get acquainted' period of experimenting with settings. Recently I've had printed a 24 x 36 canvas image to test the quality of the 12.3 megapixel image and it has exceeded my expectations. This was processed as an HDR image then run through NIK define software for added clarity. I shoot primarily fine art images.

I also have had major issues with this camera. It freezes up and I have a constant ERR message. It is very frustrating to miss a shot. I purchased because my D50 was broke at the airport coming home from vacation, for the repair price I just purchased a new camera, thinking the D90 was the best. I have 4 kids and can not go with out a camera! I am so frustrated with it that I sent my D50 in to Nikon for the fix and am now using that camera and will sell the D90 on ebay. When my D50 breaks again I will buy a cannon!!!

I too have had the ERR problem and it is currently unresolved. It is so frustrating to have a special shot and not be able to take it because the camera freezes. By the time the battery, card, lens is removed and replaced, the shot is gone. The Service Dept is also very frustrating because they do not disclose what they are repairing and will not answer calls or messages. I don't know of any other industry where they hold your equipment for ransom until you provide a credit card to "approve the 'repair'" without being provided any other details. Nikon also proclaims that this ERR issue is not a recurring problem with other users but I think they need to read these reviews because they would learn that this is simply not true!
I will see how the "repair" goes, but I think Nikon should warranty it (which they already said they will not do). I had high hopes when I bought this camera and love many features but it is a hunk of junk if it doesn't work and not worth carrying.

When it works, it works beautifully. When it freezes up with an ERR message, not infrequently, it is extremely frustrating. I have missed taking many photos, sometimes missed whole events because the camera froze up. I have not tried to have it repaired, but based on everyone's comments here, I don't think I will try. Just hobbling along.

I was probably the last photographer to make the switch to digital. The D90 convinced me it was the time. I've never been sorry I made the change. The ease of handling is typical of Nikon. I've used it for sports, travel, landscape, people pictures and many other things. One expression I often hear from others is "Oh, it's a Nikon. No wonder the results are good." I have put my Nikon film cameras away and haven't used them since buying my D90. I do much of my own printing at home and can easily crop and print larger size pictures. Many of them have found a home with friends and family. Thank you Nikon for coming through again.

Great camera. Period.
I bought my D90 a little over a year ago and I LOVE using it! It has been such a fantastic DSLR for me that I keep on liking it more are more every time I use it. I just bought the body (I have two other Nikon DSLRs and several Nikkor lenses).
As for the D90, I love the way it feels in my hands. It has the nice chunky grip which feels like that of a professional Nikon. Having separate dials and buttons for controlling shutter speed, aperture, white balance, exposure compensation, metering, frame advance speed, etc. is a huge advantage of this serious amateur level camera.
The image quality, as you'd expect from any Nikon DSLR, is excellent. It's low light performance at ISO 3200 is excellent too. I like the way you can manipulate the camera output like sharpness, picture quality, etc. The shutter sounds like that of a professional Nikon - I like that! The Nikon website says that the shutter has been tested to over 100,000 cycles; so I bet my D90 would give me excellent service over years to come!
Along with these features, there is a whole bunch of other useful features such as for example the ability to control multiple flashes wirelessly and live view feature. Of course there is this movie feature too (in fact the D90 was the world's first digital SLR camera with the movie function!), but I hardly use it. Various people have criticized its ability to make movies, but I am not using it to make movies. If you want to make movies, why not use a video camera? The D90 is an excellent digital SLR for taking still images - and it is with this job that it excels. So I use it only for making still images.
Overall, the D90 is a great camera; easy to use; handles very well; and, above all, takes great images! I would recommend this camera to anyone without any hesitation.

This is the first Nikon camera I have purchased and would never purchase another nikon product. Purchased the camera from Henry's in Winnipeg on Waverly St. the camera has been a lemon from new. The digital read out panel located on the top frequently fails and has from new. I have to shut off the camera and remove the battery to clear the problem. This is a real pain to use. When I returned to Henry's (store where camera was purchased#, the sales person *female# said I needed a lower grade memory card to clear the problem. So I purchased a different memory card #less space same brand) as recommended from the store where camera was sold.
At Christmas two months after the camera is off warranty the image screen failed. The camer has had hardly any use and has been an extream pain to use due to the frequent failures that require the battery removal to reset that has occurred since being purchase. I am extreamly dissipointed in this product and could not, would not recommend Nikon products to any one.
I returned to the store where the camera was puchased and asked about the image screen failure and if Nikon had any reported problems or recalls. The store Henry's provided no support or in good faith help with the major failure of the image screen so soon after the end of the warrenty. The sales person #male) said that the failure on the digital read out panel located on the top was a known problem and that if I had brought this in before the warrenty expired it could have been fixed. Different answer that what I received the first time.
I did not find that Nikon or their distribution store Henry's was very ethical in their treatment of providing customer support or service for this very expensive product they sold. No after market ownership or customer service, just take the money and run.

I had a mild beginners interest in photography during first year University thanks to a roommate. Two years later I was going overseas to teach and a friend and his father teamed up to buy me a D40. I worked that thing to the bone and learned the ropes during my hiatus and travels thereafter. Later I upgraded to the D90 and I can't see myself upgrading again until this one dies the death. Mind was blown. The ease of access to the WB and ISO was really all that did it for me, and after lots of fiddling around with the various WB settings, I discovered the D90 does a pretty sweet job on Auto so I very rarely touch it, but make my adjustments in Lightroom afterward.
The D90 is quite clean on higher ISO's but you will obviously encounter some noise. But I shoot everywhere between 200-1000, but try to avoid going any higher. Too much noise just bugs me,
I've heard a lot of complaints about the flash. I can't say anything about it because I have used it maybe...three times? Too dark? Jack up your ISO and/or move. I don't like the way pop-up flashes wash out images so I avoid it at all costs.
I did find the battery didn't last too terribly long, but I've been able to shoot for a couple days and do OK. Buy another one if necessary.

I love this camera. Just came back from a quick touristy drive through the Bad Lands, South Dakota USA shooting in RAW and took 1800+ photos and am loving the results I'm getting while cleaning things up in Lightroom. Stoked, actually. I had so much fun with this camera, even WITH the kit lens I dislike so much.
Totally worth every penny for amateur to advanced amateur photography. I personally will NOT be upgrading unless I get so amazing that people throw their wallets at me for my images, or this one crumbles into dust in my hands.
